MALTA AIRPORT – Here every journey starts and ends!

Po pierwsze, lotnisko: to tu zaczyna się i kończy nasza podróż na Maltę!

HAL FAR – It’s definitely not a place you want to visit and you won’t find information about it in any guide! Why? Because it’s a refugee camp. Pope Francis wants to meet here with more than 1,000 immigrants that came here from Africa.

To zdecydowanie nie miejsce, które chcielibyście odwiedzić i nie znajdziecie o nim informacji w żadnym przewodniku. Bowiem Hal Far to obóz dla uchodźców. Papież Franciszek chce spotkać się tu z ponad tysiącem imigrantów.

DINGLI CLIFFS – Beautiful and scary Dingli cliffs are the first things that travellers from Africa see from the sea. So was with saint Paul and saint Luke. Their journey described in the Bible mentions them.

Piękne i przerażające zarazem Klify Dingli to pierwsza rzecz, jaką widzą przybywający tu na statkach z Afryki podróżni. Tak było również ze świętym Pawłem i świętym Łukaszem. Wspominają je w swojej relacji, która została spisana w Biblii.

ST PAUL GROTTO – Saint Paul came to Malta as a prisoner of the Roman Empire, so quite possibly he spent his time in Malta inside this nice, dark cave in Rabat.

Święty Paweł przybył na Maltę jako więzień Imperium Rzymskiego. Dlatego całkiem możliwe, że cały swój czas na Malcie spędził w tej uroczej, ciemnej jaskini w Rabat.

ST PAUL CATHEDRAL – situated in Mdina, which used to be the capital of Malta at the time of saint Paul arrival. Tradition says that exactly in this place saint Paul met with the Roman governor, who was later converted to christianity and baptised with his whole family.

Katedra świętego Pawła wznosi się w mieście, które było stolicą Malty w czasie, gdy przybył do niej święty Paweł. Tradycja mówi, że właśnie w tym miejscu Paweł spotkał się z namiestnikiem wyspy, którego później nawrócił na wiarę chrześcijańską i ochrzcił wraz z całą rodziną.

Northern region of Malta

ROMAN ROAD – one of the numerous roads that remains after the Roman Empire. Was it the way saint Paul and saint Luke used to walk? Maybe. For sure, for many years it was a pilgrimage trail to Sanctuary in Mellieha.

Jedna z wielu dróg, jakie zostały po upadku Imperium Rzymskiego. Czy tędy spacerował święty Paweł i święty Łukasz? Być może. Z pewnością, przez wiele lat był to szlak pielgrzymów udających się do Sanktuarium w Mellieha.

MELLIEHA GROTTO – hidden under the hill grotto used to carry a very special icon of Mother Mary. Tradition says it was painted by saint Luke. Actually, he spent three months in Malta so it is quite possible he used to paint here

Ukryta pod wzgórzem grota kryła w sobie niezwykłą ikonę Matki Bożej. Tradycja mówi, że została namalowana przez świętego Łukasza. Właściwie, jakby nie patrzeć, spędził tu trzy miesięcy, dlaczego by więc nie miał tego czasu wykorzystać na malowanie.

Gozo – the second largest island of Malta

TA PINU – the National Shrine situated in the wide valley keeps a miraculous painting of Mother Mary, Queen of Angels. Pope JP2 visited this Basilica and of course so will pope Francis.

Położone pośrodku rozległej doliny Sanktuarium Ta Pinu skrywa cudowny wizerunek Matki Bożej Królowej Aniołów. Papież Jan Paweł II odwiedził tę Bazylikę i podobnie uczyni papież Franciszek.

GOZO CASTLE – From this castle and cathedral you can see the whole island of Gozo.

Z tego zamku i katedry można zobaczyć całą wyspę Gozo.

COMINO CHURCH – How is it possible that one of this smallest Maltese island got its own church where every Sunday a Holy Mass is celebrated? A miracle! Or the determination of an elderly priest who comes here every week regardless of the storm and bad weather.

Jak to możliwe, że na tej jednej z najmniejszych wysp Malty stoi kościół, w którym co niedzielę sprawowana jest Eucharystia? Cud! Albo determinacja starszego księdza, który bez względu na sztorm i niepogodę, przypływa tu co tydzień.

ST PAUL ANCHOR – found on the day of the election of Pope Benedict XVI is a sign! But of what? Some believe that this anchor, which came from an Egyptian merchant ship dating back to the 1st-3rd century, belonged to the ship that brought Saint Paul here.

Znaleziona w dniu wyboru papieża Benedykta XVI kotwica to znak! Ale jaki? Niektórzy wierzą, że ta pochodząca z egipskiego statku handlowego datowanego na I-III wiek należała do statku, którym przypłynął tu święty Paweł.

SAINT PAUL ISLAND – This small, uninhabited island was chosen in the Middle Ages as the site of Saint Paul’s shipwreck. Although nowadays a different location seems more likely, the Saint Paul monument still joyfully welcomes all pilgrims.

Ta mała niezamieszkała wyspa została w Średniowieczu wytypowana na lokalizację rozbicia się statku świętego Pawła. Wprawdzie współcześnie bardziej prawdopodobna wydaje się inna lokalizacja, ale pomnik świętego Pawła wciąż wita radośnie wszystkich pielgrzymów.

Central Region of Malta

SNAKE – was it here? Actually it’s hard to say, but for sure one of the snakes on Malta bit saint Paul… but he didn’t die. Probably after this miracle all snakes on Malta are not dangerous anymore.

Czy to było tu? Właściwie, ciężko powiedzieć. Aczkolwiek jedno jest pewne: jadowity wąż ugryzł Pawła, a temu nic się nie stało! Pewnie to po tym cudzie węże maltańskie nie są już groźne.

VALLETTA – the present capital of the island, was built by the Knights of Saint John. How did the crusaders end up in Malta? After the fall of Jerusalem, Acre and later Rhodes they received the Maltese islands as a gift from the Pope. They came here with the relics of their patron: the hand of Saint John the Baptist. Although the hand has already been stolen and is now in Russia, in the center of Valletta we can still admire the gold ornate St. John’s Cathedral. There is also an excellent painting by Caravaggio depicting the beheading of John the Baptist.

Na koniec Valletta, obecna stolica wyspy, została zbudowana przez Rycerzy Świętego Jana (joannici). Jak krzyżowcy znaleźli się na Malcie? Po upadku Jerozolimy, Akki, a później także Rodos dostali wyspy maltańskie w prezencie od papieża. Przyjechali tu wraz z relikwiami swojego patrona: ręką świętego Jana Chrzciciela. Choć ręka została już skradziona i znajduje się obecnie w Rosji, w centrum Valletty nadal podziwiać możemy zdobioną złotem Katedrę Świętego Jana. W niej także znajduje się znakomity obraz Caravaggio przedstawiający ścięcie Jana Chrzciciela.
